Sarah Burke is just about perfect. She's got killer blue eyes, gorgeous blond hair, and impeccable grades. There's just one tiny-all right, enormous-flaw: her nose. But even that's not so bad. Sarah's got the best best friend and big goals for print journalism fame.
On the first day of senior year, Rock Conway walks into her journalism class and, well, rocks her world. Problem is, her best friend, Kristen, falls for him too. And when Rock and Kristen stand together, it's like Barbie and Ken come to life. So when Kristen begs Sarah to help her nab Rock, Sarah does the only thing a best friend can do-she agrees. For someone so smart, what was she thinking?
This hip retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac is filled with hilariously misguided matchmaking, sweet romance, and a gentle reminder that we should all embrace our flaws.

Cute story!
By loves to read
Sarah has a flaw or does she? This is a cute retailing of Shakespeare's Roxanne. A coming of age story, how we perceive ourselves as to how others really see us. There were wonderful quotes at the beginning of each chapter here is one of my favorites: "I never saw an ugly thing in my life: for let the form of an object be what it may-light,shade, and perspective will always make it beautiful." by John Constable.
Sarah and her best friend Kristen start the new school year the same as always, except for gorgeous Rockford is the new amazing guy in their high school. Rock is handsome, smart, attentive, and fun. Well Sarah and Kristen both have a crush on Rock. Sarah has rarely fallen for a guy, while her best friend Kristen goes through guys fairly quickly. Once Kristen has her eye's set on something it is full steam ahead, and since Sarah thinks they look good together and she loves her best friend she agrees to Kristen's scheming to catch Rock. This story was fun and light, but at the same time delves into the topics of appearances and liking ourselves the way we are and not giving into the social acceptable perfect looks. So what her nose is a little big, but does her nose have to define everything about her? Does it make her ugly? Who defines ugly? The writing flowed smoothly, the characters were interesting. I enjoyed the best friend relationship, how they were there for each other. Sarah is smart, funny and witty, and self sacrificing almost to a fault. Kristen is the fluffy, beautiful best friend. A quick fun, light story, with a point.
fair amount of swearing
clean romance
one brief underage beer party pretty mild

Delightful and engaging
By ReadingVacation
We have all heard from adults that "It is what is on the inside that counts." If adults really wanted to get their message across, they would have their kids pick up Flawless. As Sarah struggles to accept her nose, she realizes that what she offers on the inside is even more important. I love stories that teach a lesson while they entertain. Win-Win.
Speaking of Sarah's nose, I can still not totally picture what it looks like. I settled for something that reminds me of a parrot nose, curvy and very big. Even though Sarah claims that she is okay with her nose, it is obvious that she is self-conscious. For all her bravo, she seems to see herself as only her nose, not the wonderfully unique person she really is. It's sad that Sarah even lacks the confidence to admit that she is uneasy with her nose.
If you think the story is loosely based on Cyrano de Bergerac, you are right. Remember, he's the guy with the big nose. I read the children's version of Cyrano, and I am thrilled with the modern twist in Flawless. If you read both books, you will know exactly what I am talking about. I am shocked that the girls are able to keep their charade going as long as they are.
Sarah's forbidden affection for Rock is classic. I learned just how special and tormenting love can be when you are being denied the ability to express your true feelings. Despite wishing that Sarah was with Rock, I could not work up any hatred for Kristen. She was oblivious to Sarah's feelings and she seemed to honestly like Rock for most of the book. Oh, and I don't even get me started on the dramatic romantic conclusion to this sweet story.
Lara Chapman's debut is delightful and engaging. I fell in love with every single page.

COVER COMMENTS
How cool is this cover? I like that Sarah's nose is missing so we are forced to picture it on our own. That makeup is just gorgeous. Look at those eyes!

A Modern Version of Cyrano De Bergerac
By Paula L. Phillips
OMG , I loved this book so much . I didn't think that it would have the effect on me that it did , I wasn't sure what the book was going to be about but once I got started I was hooked and then with the last few chapters and by the time I had finished the book , I actually had tears in my eyes and I HARDLY ever cry in books , movies I do but never really books and especially not in Teen books lol. But Flawless brought tears to my eyes.
The book starts with two best friends Sarah and Kristen and of course a new hunky guy named Rockford aka Rock Conway. He is not only gorgeous and handsome but he is also smart and intelligent and of course the perfect gentleman. When Kristen sets her eyes on him , Sarah always the best friend takes a step back though she liked him too. The next part reminded me of the book "The Julian Game" by Adele Griffin when Kristen asks Sarah to write to Rock pretending to be her , as this goes on though Sarah is finding herself fall more in love with Rock as he is definitely more perfect for her than Kristen. Throughout the novel Flawless , we read as Sarah continually questions the factor of Loyalty and how far one can go to remain loyal and when has loyalty gone too far that one loses it's own morals and self-worth. The other issue in which the title stems from is the fact that we learn Sarah has a big nose - a nose that is out of place on her face, one that is so big -people stop and stare. In Flawless , we read as Sarah tosses and turns with the issue of her appearance and self-esteem. This part of the book reminded me of "The North of Beautiful" by Justina Chen Hedley in which the main character had a port wine birthmark over the side of her face. In the last chapter we read as Sarah reads out an essay she wrote on Loyalty and the consequences of what she did are revealed.
Flawless is one of those books that I highly recommend all to read and even if it isn't the type of book that you normally read - you must.
